i went to a 4th of july party at the zombie/gimpel residence yesterday and [info]hallowdoll and i got into one of our late night discussions that seems to chase away any partygoers having a difficult time leaving . except me . i took a lot of pictures of maggie beating the hell out of aaron, but i'm afraid of posting them on the internet in case she's ever charged with domestic violence . i didn't get any good pictures of aaron sitting on maggie asking her to submit, though .

mary hit me with something so profound last night, an idea i'd never been privy to . she said that she thought people weren't inherently good or evil, that they were just blank and are born as empty vessels, waiting to be filled with love or propaganda or whatever it is that parents are feeding their kids these day . i take that statement to the furthest place that it can possibly reach, into the realms of consciousness and existence . perhaps the moral and ethical region we inhabit, maybe even our essence and our being is a function of the ideas and desires that are contained within us as well as the actions that those thoughts manifest .

i know i want a better world, and i know that i have to create it bit by bit . but the task seems so daunting, and there is never enough time .

I've recently moved. I'm by myself. I hate it. My boyfriend and I can't stop fighting.

He hates the phone and I've done everything I can to limit our conversations. I write letters instead. But we're both miserable. He makes me feel like I've done something wrong. i don't know what to do. We can't talk. I hate everything about this. I hate talking to people about my problems. I don't know what to do all I want to do is go back home. I hate this place.

Breath
It's hot and humid and they just mowed the Meadows so the air is thick with pollen and dust. I went for a run after work and can hardly breathe, the insides of my lungs caked with the damp air debris. There's something about this climate that makes me not want to eat.

Yes, it is that serious.

Berglaug has moved into her own flat and she invited us all round to see how she's settled in last night. It was lovely, she's managed to unpack and settle in faster than I ever could.

My regular-healthy-meals diet kind of went out the window for the last week, but I'm now back to steamed vegetables and small portions. I have a tendency to eat too much, and then only one meal the whole day, which is bad for me on so many levels. Many small healthy meals = good.

I'm not a fan of remix albums, though I find occasional remix songs interesting and even better than the originals, but that has never been the case with NiN... however, this song I had to buy because I love those drums.

Having a mouse, I've realized, means I can scroll rapidly through any webpage. This is a fantastic rediscovery!
And! I bought a book today (happiness) and resolved a big problem.

But it's no fun crying over sad Chinese love songs. That really breaks my heart.

In Ghost Colours & Screaming Masterpiece

I love this Cut Copy album so much that I've uploaded it for you guys to download. It brings me back to when I was 9 and listened to all the music my brother used to play back then like Erasure, Modern Talking, etc. The album isn't completely in that vein but it brings me back none the less.

I sincerely feel that it's one of the best albums I have heard in a while.

Well, there are a handful that I have heard and are consistently good from track to track but this one stands out to me. I guess it's because of all the good feelings it invokes.

Anyhow, here's the link.

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

On another music related note. If you haven't seen/heard already, pitchfork.com has put up the full video of the 2005 film Screaming Masterpiece. There are 9 parts. It's not that long and it is definitely worth the time to watch. There were some parts in there where the music was so intense it made me get emotional. Especially "Odin's Raven Magic". Seeing this movie definitely makes me want to go to Iceland and be taken over completely. Video link.

Here are a couple of excerpts:

Enjoy!

sunday
I bought a new laptop. It's an Asus machine of the F8 series, a tad heavy (but I bought a nice backpack to deal with that), super fast, super lot of disk space, super wonderful graphics card and a pretty super memory card. It was pricey but there had to be a trade-off if I was going to plunge into the competitive PC world. Macintosh was a haven of safety compared to this non-stop crap I'm having to deal with with Windows.

Anyway I paid a lot of money to recover the data from my previous HDD but now it turns out that the music (20 gigs of which) is not being read and I've already deleted the files. Permanently.

I had a great dinner today, in any case, which thankfully softens the blow of the phantom music files. The dishes were served in this order: fragrant Chinese tea, watercrest soup, stewed beef with golden mushrooms, something like sambal kang kong only it was a different vegetable, fried prawn in flour served with salad sauce and the killing move was a disgustingly sinful dish of pork and preserved vegetables soaked in pork lard. And I left my camera at the studio.

All that aside, I've been busy learning the guitar and Photoshop and basic photography. I wish I had more time to write book reviews, get acquainted with my room - it's barely conducive given that some damn stupid fucking construction starts at 9AM in the morning compelling me to stuff my ears with F1 racing earplugs and desperately grasp for a couple of hours' worth of sleep, shower, gulp my coffee and get the fuck out of the house - and relax. My nerves are strung out, the muscles behind my eyes feel sewn shut and my whole body tightens up uncomfortably at certain hours of the day.

I've also been playing Lego Indiana Jones on my DS and it makes me want to go on an Indy marathon. But I've been wanting to do this for a month and a half now and since it hasn't happened yet, chances are it won't.

Otherwise, everything's a ok although I wouldn't mind a full body massage at all. Or a good copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3.

"The vice of our leading parties in this country (which may be cited as a fair specimen of these societies of opinion) is, that they do not plant themselves on the deep and necessary grounds to which they are respectively entitled, but lash themselves to fury in the carrying of some local and momentary measure, nowise useful to the commonwealth. Of the two great parties, which, at this hour, almost share the nation between them, I should say, that, one has the best cause, and the other contains the best men. The philosopher, the poet, or the religious man, will, of course, wish to cast his vote with the democrat, for free-trade, for wide suffrage, for the abolition of legal cruelties in the penal code, and for facilitating in every manner the access of the young and the poor to the sources of wealth and power. But he can rarely accept the persons whom the so-called popular party propose to him as representatives of these liberalities. They have not at heart the ends which give to the name of democracy what hope and virtue are in it. The spirit of our American radicalism is destructive and aimless: it is not loving; it has no ulterior and divine ends; but is destructive only out of hatred and selfishness. On the other side, the conservative party, composed of the most moderate, able, and cultivated part of the population, is timid, and merely defensive of property. It vindicates no right, it aspires to no real good, it brands no crime, it proposes no generous policy, it does not build, nor write, nor cherish the arts, nor foster religion, nor establish schools, nor encourage science, nor emancipate the slave, nor befriend the poor, or the Indian, or the immigrant. From neither party, when in power, has the world any benefit to expect in science, art, or humanity, at all commensurate with the resources of the nation."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Politics," 1844

I don't believe
So I went to Dr.s and he asked if I drink. I said yes. He asked how much. I said once a week or so. He said you shouldn't be drinking at all. Alcohol is like poison for your liver and if you have a condition it's 10 times worse. I sat silently for a moment. Light afternoon jams hovered through the hallways. I looked back up and said so by not drinking you mean no more than once a week. And he responded not once a week, not at all, you will die by the time you are 40. I sat silently. Apparently he sensed my arrested consciousness and disheartened gaze. It's really not a game he continued you shouldn't be drinking at all I'm very serious. I looked back up finally and responded so it's a challenge then.
